Postpartum Workout Recommendations?

I’m on parental leave and looking for a good postpartum workout. Ideally, I would love it if the instructor specializes in postpartum exercise and I would like to bring my baby and occasionally my older child. Would love some recommendations that might fit my needs. Thank you in advance!

I would check out https://www.annemariayoga.com/ and get on her weekly mailing list. She offers specific PP workshops like “connected to core.” East Bay Birth Collective may also have some good ideas: https://www.eastbaybirth.com/perinatal-education. If you’re into yoga, I’m loving Angela Madonia’s prenatal yoga and she also does PP yoga with babies! https://www.angelamadoniayoga.com/

I also got these recs from a friend for prenatal free online stuff and I bet some have PP options too:

- Nourish move love

- Yoginimelbourne

- Pregnancy and postpartum tv

- Sydney Cummings houdyshell

- Fit with sally

- Lauren fitter

Try out Fit4Mom https://510.fit4mom.com/schedule ! You can bring your baby, it's a fun group of moms who often stay behind after workout for a park hangout. The owner, Jo, is awesome, and also organizes a few social events for moms every month.

I have a recommendation for a wonderful certified pilates instructor that teaches postpartum fitness, she’s a mom as well. Brijett teaches in-home which was essential for me during the postpartum time. She might teach at a pilates studio as well, I’m not sure. All of the exercises she gave me incorporated my pelvic floor therapy exercise program, she said PT and pilates had a lot of overlap as pilates emphasizes safe movement. You can email her at brijettpilates [at] gmail.com

For something at home, I love MommaStrong workouts! 15 mins / day, videos you do whenever you want, a real focus on strength and mobility + access to a physical therapist who can answer specific questions.

Lotus Method on Piedmont Ave is great. They are totally focused on postpartum exercise, and many people bring their babies to both classes and private sessions. I also brought my older one when she was capable of occupying herself and it wasn't an issue at all. They are a supportive environment, all of the coaches were very experienced in how to manage postpartum bodies, and everyone i met there was just lovely.

I recommend Momleta--they have a class in Oakland and in Kensington. I've been to both and both the teachers are great. People bring babies and sometimes older kids too. Bonus, it's a really nice community and good way to connect with other moms!

Congrats! Two recs for you:

  • Fit4Mom 510. A variety of stroller-based workouts in Albany, Berkeley, and Emeryville. Many moms bring their kids but some also go solo. The owner, Jo, is a fabulous human and does a great job of modifying exercises depending on your recovery and knowing when to push you a bit harder. She and her team also organize other family and Mom Night Out events, so it's an easy way to make friends and get some extra parent support, too
  • Dance Floor on Solano has a baby-wearing dance class on Monday mornings. Also a really lovely community, with easy modifications depending on your postpartum fitness level

Hi there,

You may have already heard of Momleta, but I'm writing to recommend it in case you haven't. The Oakland classes are at Lake Temescal, and there's now a group that meets in Kensington Park as well (Momleta North Berkeley). I've been to both and can vouch for the quality of the instructors and community, plus babies and toddlers are welcome. Hope that's helpful!

Annemaria Rajala at the Green Yogi on telegraph does postnatal yoga classes weekly, and also runs a core recovery program a few times a year. She’s amazing, it’s almost as good as seeing a PT, and you get home practices for 6 months afterwards. Precrawling babies are welcome, which I know doesn’t help with your older kiddo, but if you can swing it, I can’t recommend her highly enough.

I high recommend AnneMaria's Connected Core classes! https://app.arketa.co/iframe/annemariayoga/series/xeV1rlnYF6t0IOd3MVU7. The class really focuses on finding your core again after having a baby. Babies are very welcome!

I had a great experience with Annemaria Yoga. She has a variety of postnatal classes and offerings: https://www.annemariayoga.com/postnatal Here's what her website says about her in-person postnatal classes: "Pre-crawling babies are welcome for the in-person classes, but the class is parent focused." She also has on-demand video and live online content.

Check out Momleta in Oakland, run by Mary McQueen. She specializes in postpartum exercise and babies/kids often come to the classes. She also does personal training. I've been going to both classes and personal training with Mary since my first kid was born in late 2020.

hi there! congrats on the newest addition to your family! check out momleta north berkeley which has classes three times a week at kensington park. there are also classes available in oakland and walnut creek.

I strongly recommend Momleta! It has saved my mental health after having my second baby almost 3 years ago, and I still go now! Great workout, great community, great to get outside! First class is always free and they meet at lake temescal Monday- Thursday at 9:30-10:30. There’s also a class in Kensington park.

Hi! I highly recommend Momleta. The Oakland classes are held Monday-Thursday 9:30-10:30 at Lake Temescal which is so lovely. Mary, the owner/instructor is extremely knowledgable about postpartum exercise - not only to keep you safe/avoid injury, but also to heal your body/address diastasis. Moms of all stages attend with babies/toddlers in strollers or even older kids. The class has a very welcoming feeling to all levels of fitness with modifications to fit any needs.bThere's also a Momleta franchise in Kensington if that location is easier.

Momleta is a great community based, in-person postpartum workout program.  I’m an instructor 1 day a week but started out as a student with my twins in tow. What’s great about this class is there is a real community feel, modifications for all stages of recovery and fitness level, and access to resources. The classes are outside at beautiful locations. The babies love it and the little kids are free to move around with the comfort of having a group of moms keeping an eye out.

Hi Franny, it sounds like the “Momleta” workout class at Lake Temescal in Oakland could be a great fit! It’s a workout class for parents, postpartum or at any stage of life and many people bring their baby or children (of any age). Mary, the instructor, is very knowledgeable about all things postpartum and gives many ways to adjust exercises to be appropriate for each stage of pregnancy and/or postpartum. It’s a really fun group of people in a beautiful space - I’ve really enjoyed working out with my little ones there! Here’s the website if you want to check it out - https://momleta-alamedaoakland.pike13.com/schedule#/list?dt=2025-03-06&…

I absolutely love Momleta, so second the other recommendations.  The classes are fun and cater to a really wide range of activity/fitness levels so you can build on or take it easier as is appropriate for you.  I started coming at 3 months postpartum and am still coming nearly two years later - the classes have evolved as I have. Mary creates an incredibly warm, welcoming environment - whether you bring a baby, older child, or come alone.  If your baby is crying, no one minds! And Mary will offer to push the stroller or hold them so you can get your workout in. The people are super friendly and I love knowing I am not only coming for a great workout but also to be around a community of like minded moms.  I've even made friends at Momleta that I see outside of classes!  Working out by Lake Temescal in the fresh air with Momleta is one of my favorite parts of my week.  Can't recommend highly enough!

I recommend Momleta in Oakland!

I couldn't agree more about the recommendation for Momleta! I go to Momleta at Kensington park led by Ashley - and she is the best! It is a warm, welcoming community, children are welcome and encouraged to join, and the workout is great. Classes are 3x per week and are held at Kensington Park. Check out the instagram for some insights into what it looks like at Momleta!

Hi Franny! I recommend checking out Momleta bootcamp at Lake Temescal in Oakland. Classes are Mon - Thur 9:30-10:30am. You can bring your kids and it's a great community of moms. The workout has modifications for different fitness levels and the instructors are specially trained in postpartum fitness. I'm currently on maternity leave doing classes with my 2 month old 3 days/week and really enjoying them! Here's the link: https://www.momleta.com/mommy-and-me-fitness-exercise-classes-near-me/c…
