I worked with Collective Birth (Aimée, Jas, and Flo) for the birth of my first child. Having them as our guides through the process of pregnancy and birth was the best decision we've ever made! We simply could not have asked for a better experience. My husband and I were looking for midwives who valued the beauty and mystery of birth, but who were also grounded, experienced medical professionals. These three incredible people strike that balance perfectly! I could not recommend them enough.
And what we got was so much more than that. Every step of the way we knew we were in capable, supportive, kind hands. They answered every question I had with gentle compassion, and they were deeply competent and articulate about every topic – even the most difficult and emotional ones. Each of them has said something to me that has really stayed with me and guided me through childbirth and beyond. After each appointment, my hubby and I would joke that the last midwife we saw was our new favorite. We were truly happy to have any one of them assist the birth when the time came.
It always felt like they were on our side in having the birth experience that we wanted, completely without judgement, and always offering their insights and recommendations in the interest of us having a safe birth that aligned with our birth vision. When I went into labor, I entered the process confident, relaxed, and fully trusting in my midwives. And after it was over, I had exactly what I hoped for: a beautiful, amazing, wild labor that left me with a profound sense of empowerment and a healthy, happy baby girl!
Not what you asked for, so please feel free to disregard, but I had a great experience with my CNMs Aimee Tom and Jasmine Swinson in 2019/2020. I really didn't like my OB so went looking elsewhere, too. I really didn't want a non-medically credentialed midwife, and both women are nurses with a long history of nursing practice. I really appreciated the length of my appointments, email communication, etc. When I developed complications they were great and said they had a lot of experience co-managing things like pre-e (like me), gestational diabetes, and others.
I delivered at Alta Bates in January 2018 with Aimée Tom as my midwife, and I highly highly recommend her. She is smart, compassionate, and really took the time to listen to me and my concerns and talk things through with me. I never felt rushed. I had a normal pregnancy, but ended up delivering way past my due date. Those last days were stressful with so many friends and family bugging me about when the baby was going to come, but Aimée was my rock and really helped me feel at ease. I also loved her postpartum care and support. She checked in on me often to see how I was doing, and made me (almost) want to get pregnant again soon just so I could have her as a caregiver!
I delivered my baby boy last October with Aimée Tom at Alta Bates and recommend her with the absolute highest regards. Switching my prenatal care to Aimée was the best decision I made. Her office is next to the hospital making it super convenient. RE: doula experienced with Alta Bates births
Aimee Tom was my doula last month for the birth of my second child, and she is truly stellar. We have continued to have her work for us as a post-partum doula and I am even more impressed with her. She's very knowledgable, (about birth, parenting, babies, etc) experienced and competent and I immediately felt comfortable with her. I delivered at Alta Bates and she obviously is very comfortable working there. I'd be glad to give you more info. Deborah
