Viola teacher
Hello everyone!
We recently moved to Berkeley and our 11 year old daughter joined 5th grade. As all children in BUSD learn instruments at school, she joined the viola class there. But it's been a bit of a frustrating experience so far as the other children have been learning the viola for over a year already.
So we would like to hire a viola teacher / tutor to get her up to speed with the rest of the class. Ideally this should be somebody who could come to our house in Elmwood, or who at least teaches nearby (and we would of course compensate for travel time).
Does anybody have any leads? We would also be happy to consider, for example, a high school student who has been learning the viola for a few years, as we are just looking for our daughter to get up to speed with her class for now, not necessarily concert-hall level skills yet. (But of course if the person is an experienced teacher, all the better!)
Thanks!

Hiya,
I highly recommend checking out Music Connection - it's a local nonprofit that provides free music lessons from UCB students to BUSD & OUSD elementary kids. You can choose the instrument and while there's no guarantee, we've had our first choice twice now. They run on the UCB academic calendar and just placed spring students, but keep an eye on it for future reference!

My son has had wonderful experiences with Darcy Noonan! She is not too far from Elmwood and is a wonderful viola teacher who connects kids with a beautiful musical community. https://darcynoonanviolin.com/home
