The EBGIS Early Childhood Program accepts students from 24 months to 5 years for Preschool and Kindergarten. EBGIS employs a bilingual, play-based and project-oriented European approach to early childhood education. The pre-academic curriculum covers language, intercultural studies, science, mathematics, music, movement, and art in a developmentally appropriate and engaging way. Social and emotional skills are integral to the EBGIS program.
No prior knowledge of German is needed for admission. Students acquire German through immersion including curricular content, daily routines, activities, and interactions. More than half of EBGIS Early Childhood students do not speak German at home, yet all transition successfully to German-language classroom instruction in the EBGIS Grades Program.
EBGIS is play-based kindergarten if you are open to German language, and they often have space for new kids. We aren't there anymore but really loved that school. EBI should also have openings for kindergarten if you are open to Spanish language, but I don't know how play-based Kindergarten is.
My son is 3.5 and goes to the East Bay German International School. Teachers get tested twice a week, free weekly (non invasive) student testing is available. Stable groups, teachers and kids were masks, and have regular hand washing practices. Temperature checks at check in. We are happy with the safety protocols and love the school in general. Preschool is bilingual, no prior German knowledge needed.
