OT Kidsense
Just incase our experience helps other families ... Our pediatrician suggested we get an assessment for our almost 4 year old for help with fine motor skills. We had an assessment at Oakland Children's Hospital. This indicated that my son would benefit from working with an Occupational Therapist. The waiting list to see an OT at Oakland Children's was more than 6 months long and my son would only receive 6 sessions. I didn't feel AT ALL confident that 6 sessions would be enough. Yet it was clear we had a problem--my kid was refusing to use a pen/pencil/marker and when he did, he found it very difficult and quickly gave up. So we searched for private OTs and found Kelli Howie at Kids Sense. Phew! Kelli was truly AMAZING. Our kid LOVED working with Kelli. She worked with my kid at preschool in downtown Berkeley most weeks for about 1 year. She had conversations with the teachers and with us parents to help us be a part of the treatment team too. The work Kelli did TOTALLY transformed my kid's fine motor skills AND his confidence and enjoyment of writing, scribbling and drawing. She also helped with gross motor skills too. Our kid started Kindergarten 2 weeks ago with great confidence. AND he comes home every day and gets out the markers and confidently ENJOYS drawing letters and numbers and even some pictures too.Transformation! So I highly recommend Kelli!!!
My daughter is older, but we've been using Kelli Howie https://www.otkidsense.com/
She has a great deal of experience with preschoolers and works at one. With us, she is working outside and distanced. She is able to find creative things to help my daughter, I am not sure how COVID has impacted her work with younger children.
Good luck!
