Parent Reviews

Parents, please Sign in to post a review on this page.

Oakland Public Library has a wide variety of toys and games for checkout (for free with your library card which is also free, in case it needs saying), and with automatic renewals, you can keep them for a couple of months. You can also put a hold on them through the website and then pick them up from your closest branch -- or you can go in and let your kid pick something out. The main library on 14th street has the most comprehensive collection. We checked out a set of Magnatiles a couple of months ago and our kid still plays with them every day.

RE: Learning Mandarin Chinese

The Oakland Public Library Asian branch in Chinatown has a kid's program in Mandarin Saturday mornings. Parents participate too and it's good for beginner level Chinese learners. Eliza

RE: Single Mom Seeks Info on Custody Options-Pro Bono?

For pro bono services, I would recommend the Alameda County Bar Association at (510) 302-222. Also, there are free legal referral services at the Oakland Public Library through the program ''Lawyers in the Library'' and free sessions at Bananas Inc. in Oakland, both are provided by the Bar Association. Hope this helps. anon

RE: Books about cancer that a preschooler would understand

The Rockridge Branch of the Oakland Public Library has a wonderful section in the Children's Library dealing with family issues. The section has picture and children's books on Cancer, going to the hospital, going to the doctor, pets dying, going to the dentist, etc. The children's librarian in that branch is very helpful and can show you that section. joy

RE: After Dinner Toddler Activities

It's not a physical activity, so it may not fit your needs, but we like the evening ''family'' storytimes at our branch of the Oakland public library. Check the library website to see where there's one near you. nelly
