WCCUSD PE Exemptions experience?

Has anyone managed to get a PE exemption for their 9th grader in WCCUSD? My son would very much like to take another math or language  instead of a 90 minutes a day PE class for his Spring block at ECHS. He already does several hours of training (martial arts and gym) after school during the week and would benefit more from another subject - otherwise he is planning to take a math class over the summer to stay on his desired academic track.

My understanding from reading through the (terrible) info provided by the district is that it may be possible to get an exemption for 10th grade but because 9th is when they do state fitness testing it may not be possible for this coming semester?

Any additional info about PE exemptions would me appreciated! Thanks!

When my kid was seeking a PE exemption (6 years ago) they were told that the district had misused them in the past (granting them to anyone who asked essentially and then using the lowered enrollment to justify cutting PE staff) so they were not allowed to grant them anymore. I know this isn't the answer you'd want, but my kid (on a climbing team at their gym at the time and already at a level of fitness well beyond what regular PE was intended to produce) ended up enrolling in Dance for their PE requirement and it was great. Really good teacher, actually quite ambitious class in terms of actual learning about contemporary dance and choreography. It started out as a really frustrating situation with the district's lack of flexibility and turned into a valuable learning experience for our kid.

He can’t get a waiver for 9th grade. That’s not a WCCUSD rule; it’s CA Ed Code. Districts can issue waivers for 10th grade PE for participation in sports. That’s where differences in district practices start to show up: which sports, how much time, do outside private sports count, etc.
