Summer rentals

Hi all,
I am looking for a summer sublet in the Berkeley area for a parent with a teen.  They are seeking 6-8 weeks in Berkeley in summer 2025.  They have checked airbnb and vrbo & the rentals seem outrageously expensive and often managed by someone who isn't even on site.  Are there other alternatives for short term rentals that folks can recommend? I feel like there must be something other than Craigslist at this stage in our digital evolution--some listings service that caters to berkeley families or east bay community members? Thanks!

Have they looked at trustedhousesitter ? Seems like it could be a good option for an adult + teen if they don’t mind looking after a cat or dog and possibly having to string a few stays together / move house in the middle. I think the cost is $100/year to belong to the website.

It is a bit early for the summer sublet market. A lot of the availability comes from university students who don’t post this far in advance, and of course some places will be in better shape than others. As summer gets closer there should be more postings on Craigslist and would expect them to be at lower rates than the rest of the year.

It will be expensive no matter what you find. If you are affiliated with UC you can try CalRentals https://och.berkeley.edu  You can also try Furnished Finder https://www.furnishedfinder.com

Best of luck.

We used https://www.sabbaticalhomes.com/ to find a 3-month rental to stay in while we were between selling one house and moving into our new one, and we were very happy with the choices and how it all worked out. This was about 5 years ago but at that time there were plenty of places in Berkeley, as the service tends to focus on cities with colleges in them.

Yes, lodging in the Bay Area is expensive no matter how you do it!  But here is one other place to look for shorter term rentals - SabbaticalHomes.com

Have you checked out www.sabbaticalhomes.com?  They might have what you need!

Hi, one option to check is sabbaticalhomes.com. I don't know how it compares to the other rental sites price-wise but definitely seems to have availability geared towards summer months.
