Suggestions for Mom with Abdonimal Diastasis Recti

Hello BPN families,

I was diagnosed with diastasis recti right after having my c-section in 2017. It has been 2.5 years and I still have a separation gap. I have seen a physical therapist at kaiser and that has helped a bit. It is a bit hard to do certain exercises since I dont want to make this condition worse. Does anyone have any recommendations for treating this? Exercise? Or other forms of treatment to decrease the gap?

Thank you!

I'm not sure about your specific condition, but there is a woman I know who deals with abdominal separation resulting from pregancy. She is in the East Bay. Here is a link to her website: http://www.abseparationrehab.com/

Good luck!

I highly recommend the online workout programs from https://every-mother.com/ -- very affordable, convenient and I've seen great improvement in my own case. All workouts are designed specifically for diastasis recti. If you don't have time for a full 20-30 minute workout every day, you can at least find time to do the 10 minute core strengthening exercise at the end of a busy day.

I had minor di-recti after my second (and a host of other core and pelvic floor issues). In addition to working with a Kaiser PT, she recommended Momma Strong to me. It’s an online workout program with 15 minute videos. By a mom for moms. $5 subscription per month and there’s a whole track for di-recti including exercises to help reverse it and/or modifications to account for it. The videos are very fun and very real (kids often walking thru the workout), and super supportive of physical impacts of motherhood.

I recommend Ashley Keller. She masterfully works with diastasis recti. See below. She doesn’t accentuate this in the link but her plan is all about healing the gap. She’s amazing. I recommend reaching out to her with any questions you have. https://www.glowbodypt.com/12-week-post-pregnancy-plan-2

I had a separation as as well after multiple pregnancies.  I saw a physical therapist that specialized in women's issues and she fixed my pelvic floor issue and closed the gap though i notice that if I don't do exercises she recommended it re-opens a bit.  So I would recommend finding a good PT that focuses on those issues to correct it but then to continue with exercises recommended by PT to ensure it does not re-open.
