St. T &. Corpus Christi for Kindergarten
Hi BPN!
We're considering sending our daughter to kindergarten at one of the Catholic schools in Oakland—either St. Theresa (St. T) or Corpus Christi. We've toured both schools, and each seems wonderful with a welcoming community.
We're hoping to get some insights on the differences between the two, especially regarding:
- Academics
- After-school activities
- Any logistical factors (like school hours, commute, etc.)
We live closer to Corpus Christi, which might influence our decision, but we're open to driving a bit farther for St. Theresa if there are significant advantages.
Any recent feedback or personal experiences would be greatly appreciated!

Hi there! I have a first grader at Corpus Christi and love it. While I can’t speak to the differences between the two schools, I’m happy to share about our family’s experience at Corpus. The community is unmatched. It truly is a place where my kiddo is happy and feels loved and accepted. The school is small enough that current students get to know the new students very quickly and are so welcoming. It warmed my heart to see how many students from across the grades were saying hi or goodbye to my shy kiddo within a few weeks of starting at Corpus. I’ve also been impressed by the teachers, staff, and co-principals. I can see how much they care about supporting each student - academically, social-emotionally, and spiritually, where the focus is on trying to be a good person because not every student is Catholic. Corpus is very strong academically but equally important to me is the emphasis on kindness, inclusion, respect for self and others, and service. In terms of logistics, school starts at 8:15am and ends at 2pm for Kindergarten and 3pm for the grades 1-8. In the mornings, families can drop off students as early as 7:30am for free. Onsite after-school care is available until 6pm for every student that needs it and is a reasonable cost. My kiddo stays after school for an hour or two every day and loves the extra time to play with friends. Lastly, as a new parent last year, I was nervous about everything (that’s my nature) and I found the parent community to be wonderful. I was given a mentor parent to ask all my questions. I found the room parents to be a tremendous resource for everything from volunteering at school to reminders about free dress days. There are also lots of annual traditions and events to participate in, which helps to create the strong community bond that exists. Our family is so glad we chose Corpus for my son, and my daughter will be in Kindergarten next year. Happy to connect if you have more questions.
