Seeking new moms group

Hi!

I am a new mom to a 10 week old baby boy. I’m looking for new mom groups in the East Bay (ideally Richmond, El Cerrito or Berkeley!) that I could join. Does anyone have any recommendations?

Hi! I highly recommend Support Group for Moms: https://www.supportgroupformothers.com/. The facilitator, Jennifer, is super welcoming and knowledgeable. I loved the setup with two meetings a week, one discussion-based session in Emeryville and another activity or outing somewhere in the East Bay. Even though our 6 weeks are formally over, we continue to meet as a group and plan activities. And our WhatsApp chat is a lifeline literally every day!

Here’s info for a very sweet mothering circle for parents of babies up to 1 year of age. They meet in North Oakland on Wednesday mornings from 10-12. The group meets in a home, and is facilitated by a former Waldorf teacher with many years of experience with early childhood ages.

Hoping you find a group that is the right fit and location for you! Joining a mothering circle was one of the best things I did when I had my first little one. Such a supportive and safe space for discussion and sharing.

Hi! I don't have a specific recommendation but one thing I did when my baby was young was reach out to a couple other moms I felt a good connection with in my childbirth class. We had a group chat that was super supportive for the first year and have become good friends (kids are 2.5 now). Berkeley, Albany and El Cerrito also have a great park culture for parents & kids (Richmond might too, I'm just not as familiar!). Over the course of my son's life I've met a bunch of parents of similar age kids just by showing up to the park and chatting – a lot of other new parents are hungry for connection too. Another friend of mine joined a new moms group just by stumbling across one at Strawberry Creek Park a few years ago. I've never found a circle of moms with young babies to be anything but welcoming to a fellow traveler, so if you're extroverted enough to be comfortable with it, I'd recommend just talking to park parents and seeing if people want to do something organized if you don't find something online :) Of all the forms of solidarity I've experienced, new parent solidarity is really something special.

Check out https://www.supportgroupformothers.com/

There's a group that appears to start this week - it's a facilitated group with similar aged kiddos (within a range) and at the end you'll have a WhatsApp group with everyone and can stay in touch. A good chunk of my group from two years ago still keep in touch - we get together for playdates and swap tips/advice/gear.

Gaia yoga in Richmond is doing a postnatal yoga support group: https://www.gaiayogastudio.com/events/2025/05/01/postnatal-yoga-support-group

I regularly take classes at Gaia and find it to be a really welcome and supportive community.

Another rec for Jennifer and Support Group for Mothers.  It was just the right (light) push to get you out of the newborn forest and meet others in your shoes.  Our mama group has spread out all over the country, but still has a WhatsApp chat - and our kids are nearly 7.

The East Bay Birth Collective has several different postpartum offerings, I’d highly recommend checking them out! Located on Telegraph at Alcatraz.
