Quails in El Cerrito

Hi there,

I'm wondering if anyone in El Cerrito has kept quail or other birds in their yard. I'm just more interested in quail--mainly due to size.

I'm looking at the municipal code and it states:

"Other Fowl. Fowl, other than chickens, shall not be permitted without a conditional use permit."

Anyone know what a conditional use permit entails and if this is possible?

I don't know the answer to your question, and I live in Berkeley, but I think this is a good question to ask your city council member. I have found that elected officials at the local level are often very responsive to citizen requests like this. They should be able to at least direct you to the right city staffer, and maybe even help you find your way through the red tape to get your quails!
