Passport photos for 6mo baby
I need to have passport photos taken of my 6 month old. Please let me know if you have any recommendations of where to go. A lot of places won't take pictures at this age. Thanks.

We took the picture of our son ourselves, when he was 3 months old. The only requirements are that you put your baby on a white background (we used a sheet) and that they have their eyes open. Then, we had Walgreens print it out in the appropriate passport dimensions. His passport arrived a few weeks ago, so there was no problem.
The post office will do it - just check online for which locations offer the service. We took our 4 month old to apply for her passport and were able to get her photo taken there. Just bring a white shirt or blanket that they can put behind the baby since they won't be able to stand in front of the white background. Also, I'm sure you're aware but both parents have to be present or you have to have an notarized affidavit from the missing parent.
When our son was that age, we took him to the little passport office at the RSF on the UC Berkeley campus. They took his picture and handled the application for us, all at the same time. It was a couple of years ago, so you may want to double-check that they still do the photos. By the way, I assume you're talking about a U.S. passport. If not, there is also a little photo shop down on University whose name escapes me (I think it might be Foto Shop?) that does passport photos of little ones for other countries too (Canada, in our case).
Same thing here, we took the pictures ourselves. The key is to take a ton of pictures so you can select the best one. We laid baby on a bed with a white sheet. Just make sure you're not too close, so that you have some room for cropping/rotating as needed.
The person at the Albany city center who received the documents said that they're not very strict with passport photos for babies because they know it's hard.
For my daughter's French passport we went to UnionpostSF in downtown San Francisco (we were at the French consulate and didn't realize we needed her photo so it was a rush job). They do US and Foreign passports for all ages and we were very happy with their services. They ended up giving us multiple photos in case one of them didn't meet European standards. For her US passport we went to Walgreens. She was only 1 month old when we had them both done.
Sears will do it. We needed one for our daughter's new certificate of citizenship.
I use Costco because they are quick and very inexpensive. I don't know if they have facility to take photos of infants.
Per Dept of State website infants do NOT need to have their eyes open.

There's an app that you can take a photo then have it printed at Walgreens or something. That's what we did for our 1mo old. Just lookup passport photo
app. UC Berkeley also does it at RSF.
Hi!
We went to the Walgreens in Temescal at 5055 Telegraph. The staff took a photos of our 4 month old on the floor. (She wore a puffy hooded jacket so it was okay.) It was very fast and there didn't seem to be any issues with her age. We didn't make an appointment- just dropped in.
We also took it ourselves, but the lighting was a little off. The passport office at the RSF in Berkeley will also take the pictures for you there, on the spot--so those are the pictures we ended up using for his passport. This was when he was just about 6 months old.
We got ours at Costco (twice) and they were great. It's helpful to have two adults. One person needs to hold the baby without being in the photo (a good arm workout!) and the other to keep them looking in the direction of the camera. Although if you can't bring another adult it's not a big deal. The photo technician was kind and patient and took multiple photos and the whole thing took less than 5 minutes. Helps to go during a time that's not super busy if you have the flexibility. Not sure if you have to be a Costco member to do this but call and ask if you're not. Their customer service is excellent. Good luck!
When I applied for a passport for my (then 3 month old) son, I laid him on his back on the floor on a smooth white surface (I think it was a poster board). Someone waved something to make him look straight up and I took his photo from above. Cropped it to fit the passport specifications. FYI you can do adults this way too, except they obviously don't have to lie on the floor. If your six month old can sit independently you can have him sit but nothing can show behind him (not in your lap etc).
We went to Walgreens. They had no problem doing the photos.
Our neighborhood shipping spot in the Dimond District in Oakland did our sons at 4 months. They were great and super friendly. The Mailbox at 3542 Fruitvale Ave, Oakland, CA 94602
We had our baby's passport photo taken at the CVS on 41st & Piedmont Ave in Oakland when she was 2 months old. It was quick and easy!
You can definitely do it yourself! Be careful to use a white, not off-white, background. There are free software programs online to accurately size the picture before getting it printed as a 4x6. Then you just get it printed anywhere, and cut it up. It's a bit of work, but less stress than waiting in any lines with an infant!
We did ours at Costco. We also have done them at CVS.
I just used the iPhone app called Passport Booth to take a photo of my daughter at home.
It has a template and you line up the person's head in the outline, so the final photo is the right size. Then you can email it to yourself for free, to be printed at the pharmacy or at home...
Berkeley Gym has a super easy and fast passport service
Not sure if this is still offered but I took my six month old to the Orinda post office. At the time, I made an appointment and it was very quick. They are familiar with the application requirements.
Costco is your best bet. I just had passport photos for my two-month-old taken and it was fast and cheap. $4 for four photos. I left my baby in her infant car seat and unbuckled the straps. The photographer placed a white sheet underneath her and snapped a few shots. Very easy! We didn't need to take her out of her car seat.
