Pants for very skinny and tall teen

Hello everyone.  My 13 yr old son is 5'9" and VERY skinny.  He still wears those pants with elastic waistbands.  Until recently I used to buy him the size 16 for boys pants at Old Navy; but now he has outgrown that.  I don't know where to get him pants as he is very tall but very skinny, so two of him fit in one pair of adult pants.  Any suggestions/recommendations?

Thanks!

I have had a lot of luck with Uniqlo pants for my very thin teen. It's worth a try, anyway. It's in Bay Street, Emeryville. I have also heard that Costco jeans work for tall, skinny boys, but I have not looked into that myself (so I don't have the exact name, but I assume it's the Kirkland brand).

Hooo boy, I hear you. My tall skinny 13 yo is now a 6'6" skinny 21 yo, and it is impossible to find pants. Land's End has boys' elastic waist pants up to size 20. After that, we moved on to Levi's (when he was out of kids' and a bit thin for adult). When my son was in middle school and early high school, the 514 cut worked for him. The 501 runs pretty slim in the waist, too. He wears those now in a 30x36, but they're still a tiny bit short.

Encourage him to follow a field that pay wells, as he will have to get bespoke pants as an adult. #jokingnotjoking

Oops. Forgot link. Land's End has slim boy sizes: http://www.landsend.com/shop/boys-pants-pull-on-pants-slim/-/N-jm5ZggkZ…

I remember that transition with my now-15yo super tall skinny son.  It's actually easier once they can wear mens' sizes, because mens' pants go by waist measurement and the length is separate, so you can get them as long as you need, as skinny as you need.  I buy khakis on Gap.com for my very tall, very skinny teen. Not only does Gap have a nice range of waist and length combinations, but they also have styles like "Slim" and "Skinny" that give you even more flexibility for fitting skinny guys.  So you can get a waist size that is not quite snug enough, but if you buy them in "Slim" they might fit. It took me a few tries to find the right combo of waist, length, and style, but once I found it, I just order new pairs online now.  Since my son is still growing, I buy slightly too long so he can wear them for at least a year.  Visit a Gap store in person and have him try on a few pairs in different sizes and styles to see what works best for him. Old Navy might have similar.  My son also likes to wear basketball shorts almost year round, and those have elastic waist so they are good.  He's been wearing the same shorts for almost 3 years, because he gets taller every year but his waist size stays the same.  I got them cheap at Nordstrom Rack!  Good luck!

Mom of 120 lb 6'5" boy

Like 'anonymous', I have used Gap pants (he prefers the chinos instead of jeans) for my very tall and skinny son.  He's currently 6'5", 120 lbs.  I agree that you should take your son into the store to try on which style he likes, but you'll have to order online, since they don't carry the tall sizes in the store.

I had a lot of luck with American Eagle Outfitters for my 6'1 kid with a 27 inch waist and 36 inch inseam. The washes were trendy but not too expensive. Really great quality too! Online they carry specialty sizes. I think we need to start a clothing swap for tall young men with long legs:)

I also have a 13 year old boy who is 5' 9" and is pretty skinny.  Up until a couple inches ago, he was wearing slim fit Gap with the elastic pulled pretty tight.  But they are too short now...

I like buying online because it's so hard to find his waist/length combo.   The best sites will let you narrow the selection by sizes they have in stock (eg 28W x 34L), which speeds things up.   Hollister is having a 50% off sale right now, so jeans are $25.  Their 28W x 34L fits my boy.

If those are still too big, try Hot Topic.  They have some 26W x 34L (see http://www.hottopic.com/product/xxx-rude-khaki-skinny-fit-jeans/141700…)

I buy Gramicci pants for my son.  At first I bought him women's (didn't tell him) as the design is gender neutral and the women's are slimmer.  They also can be ordered by length and have elastic and a cinch belt.

Talk to cs at Patagonia. I haven't bought their men's pants but I saw one review complaining that the straight leg pants were way too tight and a guy would have to be really skinny to wear them.
