Orton Gillingham tutor?

Hi BPN Community,

Can anyone out there recommend an Orton Gillingham (or something comparable) tutor for our 9 year old? Our daughter who loves school is consistently getting tripped up by certain spelling patterns in her writing, and seems to lack strategies for breaking down longer words. My husband and I are wondering if this may be a sign of some dyslexia, or maybe just bad teachers for grades 2 and 3. The Ed Therapist at her school who does not diagnose thought an Orton Gillingham tutor 2x a week would be helpful to get her feeling confident for 4th grade.

Any leads welcome! We live in Oakland but can travel for the right person.

Thank You

RE:

Hi there!

My son is 10 and dyslexic and has been attending a specialized dyslexia school in the East Bay for the past year. They use the Slingerland approach to structured literacy based on Orton Gillingham, and it is one of the most comprehensive methods in structured literacy that works wonders.  This summer, I completed the first year of training with the Slingerland Institute, which included a full month of in-person training and practicum with students and I will be looking for some students to work with starting this coming school year. Message me if interested.

Thanks!
