Moving from Canada and looking for advice on daycares and nannies

Hi Parents,

Just joined this fantastic forum upon a friend’s recommendation and really like it so far.

We are moving to the Bay Area ( not fully sure where yet we are thinking around San Mateo area for now) in 1.5 months from Canada with our 2 kids ( one just over 2.5 and the other turning 1 in the fall). I have already started freaking out finding childcare and hoping you can help me with some of my questions

1. How does one find daycare (or is it preschool that a 2.5 year attends?) should I search on google maps or care.com or do you have any other recommendations. I love this forum but seems mostly focused on East bay ( understandably) and was not able find something similar for South Bay. Do you know any forums like this for South Bay parents?

2.  I am thinking potentially having a nanny for my 1 year old who can also help us to keep the house tidy and cook for the kids. Is this reasonable?

3. We are also considering a live-in nanny as both my partner and I have pretty demanding careers. Does anyone have any experience with a live in nanny? What should I look for or avoid ( e.g., red flags). Where can we look for live in nannies, should we go through an agency? If yes, do you have any recommendations?

Thank you in advance for your help.

For my first child I found a nanny/nannyshare looking in the BPN forums. For my second one I  joined the Facebook Nannies and Mommies Bay Area. It connects parents and nannies. Just be forewarned that the FB group posts can be a bit aggressive, especially when discussing wages and nanny duties. Other than that, I see many parents connect with nannies and babysitters!
