Mattress from Costco?
Anyone buy a mattress from Costco? What kind did you get and would you recommend it? I would like to replace my mattress and am overwhelmed at the options. Figured Costco would probably have a decent price, but even Costco has so many options. I mostly sleep on my side, but sometimes on my back too. What firmness would I need? TIA.

Hi! If you're not sure what you like / need in terms of a mattress (either through previous research or purchases) I really recommend you go to a physical mattress store and try them out. There is no substitute for actually lying on a mattress. It's true that Costco has a wonderful return policy, but would you really want to go through the hassle of dragging a bad mattress back to the warehouse? Even if you end up buying from Costco, you could go to the mattress store and lie on a bunch of mattresses and at least get an idea of "oh I like it plush, it needs to have a topper on it, I hate memory foam, I need firm to very firm... etc." and then take that info forward in your search. I don't particulary have a recommendation for a mattress store, and have been through several - all the majors like Mattress Firm, Mancini's, etc. Or you could go the specialty route like Tuft & Needle, Purple, Avocado, etc. People REALLY love Tempurpedic, of course, if you have the budget for it. Good luck!
I have a sleep science mattress from Costco and I would NOT recommend.it is much more firm than advertised. I thought about returning but I bought a package and I only wanted to return the mattress. I have a topper which helps for now but I will not buy a mattress from Costco again.
I can't speak to Costco mattresses, but I would like to put in a plug for European Sleepworks in Berkeley. My husband and I love our mattress from there. We got it 17 years ago and it is still perfectly comfortable.
It has been several years but I returned a mattress to Costco with no problems (they picked it up at my house)Then I bought another one from there that I kept. The refund policy is very important when buying a mattress as it is impossible to know if you will like it until you sleep on it for a while.I bought a mid firmness Seely that was a not too poofy pillow top.Unfortunately it’s no longer made so I will have to go through another search for my next mattress.Good luck.
I finally replaced a forty-year old mattress. Shopping for new stuff can be overwhelming. I read all the Consumer Reports reviews and other reviews, and decided that a traditional inner spring mattress was my aim; not foam, not inflatable, etc. The really good deal on such a mattress wasn't available here, and shipping would have added hundreds to the price. I looked at Costco, Ikea, etc. Finally a work colleague mentioned Odd Lots. Who would have thought? The closest Odd Lots is in Pinole. I knew what firmness and size I wanted. I did not want a pilloe top, 'cause you cannot flip it four ways. I did not want one so thick I would need new fitted sheets.I found a SealyQueen Size, firm, about 12" deep, inner spring at Odd Lots for $299 and delivery was another $100, and it included taking the old one. Good things are worth waiting for. I am so happy with my new mattress.
We got a mattress from Costco based on a NYTimes Wirecutter recommendation and it is AMAZING. My husband wishes it was our mattesss and not our son’s. Something about it being supportive, but not too firm, feeling pillowy but not too soft. Price is right too. I sleep on my side and back, my husband sleeps on his stomach.
