Make up consultant

It seems that others have posted about this before, so it’s lovely to know I’m not the only adult who is somewhat embarrassed to ask for makeup help. I just turned 50, and I need someone teach me how to wear makeup. The natural look worked when I was younger but I want to look more polished and sophisticated now! I’ve never had any luck with cosmetic counters at department stores so I was hoping that someone would have a more updated recommendation for an independent salon or a lady who can give me a one on one consultation. The recommendations here are from a long time ago. Thanks!

I am an over 50 too and I faced the same issue. Solution: Bobbi Brown's Jones Road line AND all the free tutorials on Instagram etc! You don't need a makeup professional and personalized care anymore, IMO - just watch all the awesome tutorials and especially those for Jones Road. Awesome.

Hi:
I am happy to say that the consultant I saw back in 2006 (!) is still in business though now located in Marin County and seems to solely focus on special events and weddings.  But you never know, she might be open to what you need or make a recommendation.  I've never had luck at the cosmetics counter either - all that upselling! She was a guest speaker at a group I belonged to back then and did a demo on three different people: "I have five minutes to do makeup", a more involved look for a professional setting, and then a "I'm going on the town look".  I booked a time with her to teach me the basics. She was approachable and not trying to sell me the world though I did make a hefty investment (I was starting from zero after all).

Hopefully you'll get a lot of recommendations.  YouTube and TikTok videos only go so far.
