Looking for a nanny, wondering about duties
Is it ok to ask your nanny to do some basic cleaning and child's laundry or is that inappropriate?
First time mom, and care seeker over here, just trying to gauge common practices so I don't put my foot in my mouth :-)

I absolutely think that's appropriate. I didn't ask for that, but fortunately our nanny just did that anyway and it has been really helpful. I'm hoping she will be the only fulltime nanny we ever work with, but if I did go through the hiring process again I would include "wash and put away meal items, tidy and clean up play area, wash and fold child's laundry" in my posting. Hoping that a nanny will also provide the services of a true housekeeper though is unrealistic. Maybe if the nanny is only watching one infant she can tidy up the kitchen a little during the 2nd nap, but if you are in a share situation or the child is more than a few months old, I don't think a nanny would have time to do anything but the explicitly child-related cleaning.
