Listserve in DC area
Hello:
I am trying to get some things organized for my parents who live in Chevy Chase DC. I'm wondering if there is a BPN-type listserve that I can post on? I am specifically looking for a geriatrician who takes medicare, an elder care consultant who can help my family with long-term planning, and a great handyman. If you know of such a listserve (or any leads on what I would like to post about), I'd appreciate the information.
Thank you!

DC Urban Moms (and Dads) fills the bill. It's like BPN on steroids. Just be aware, most people post anonymously and it can get kind of rude.
Are you familiar with aging in place "Villages"? Groups of seniors and families who support each other by sharing tasks and information to live in their own homes as the age. My former (very dear) boss is a member of one on Beacon Hill in Boston. A quick google search yielded one in Chevy Chase.http://www.chevychaseathome.org/
Good luck to you and your parents!

Yes, there is a yahoo group Chevy Chasy Community Listserv that would be useful to you I think. Here is some info: To SUBSCRIBE to the Listserv--send your name, home address, phone numbers and email address in confidence to: ChevyChaseCommunityListserv-owner [at] yahoogroups.com (ChevyChaseCommunityListserv-owner[at]yahoogroups[dot]com)
Here's a listserve specifically for Chevy Chase.

There is also dcurbanmom.
You could go there also. I'm sure there is reasonable overlap with Potomac, and Bethesda.

Hello! You might want to start with the Eldercare Locator, http://eldercare.gov/Eldercare.NET/Public/Index.aspx, for local information about aging services. The Montgomery County Area Agency on Aging might also help: http://www.montgomerycountymd.gov/HHS/ProgramIndex/SeniorServicesindex….
if you ever need a GREAT elder law attorney-especially for long-term care planning, highly recommend the attorneys at Frank, Frank and Scherr: http://www.frankelderlaw.com/. They're a bit north of Chevy Chase (in Baltimore County) but are the experts on aging services in Maryland.
Sending good thoughts to your parents.
I used to live in DC and the closest thing I know of is DC urban moms (Google that term and it should come up). It's a widely used listserv with just about everything under the sun, topic-wise. Good luck!
Just another vote for Chevy Chase at Home -- my mother in law is very involved with this group, which is for is for seniors who want to say "at home" as the name implies.
