Inexpensive kid's athletic shoes
Hi BPN folks - I'm looking for a shoe store that sells discounted kid's athletic shoes nearby, ideally Oakland or Berkeley. My son is 7 years old, wears a size 1 or 2 and prefers lace ups. We went to DSW (before it closed) and Payless in Alameda before but was hoping to find someplace closer. Thanks!

There is a Payless in Richmond in the Target shopping center. Ross in El Cerrito Plaza or Emeryville has a limited selection but usually a few pairs of sneakers in each kids' size. Also - if you don't need name brand shoes - Target.

We've had good luck with decent athletic brand shoes at discount prices at Marshall's, Nordstrom Rack, and sometimes Ross. Also, there's a Sketchers outlet in El Cerrito just off the freeway but I'm not a fan of their shoes. If you don't mind buying online, 6pm.com has past season shoes at better prices but returning shipping isn't free so I"ve only used it when we've gotten something they already have but outgrew and we're just getting the next size up. Also DSW is still around online, and Amazon will often have free return shipping.
Not closer, but great selection: Sketchers Outlet in Richmond, right off the freeway.
I recently found some discounted name brand athletic shoes for my daughter at Nordstrom Rack in Emeryville.
We go to Big Five sporting goods in El Cerrito. Apparently there is also a store in Alameda. There is invariably some kind of sale going on...
