Hypnobirthing

I’m currently 24 weeks pregnant with my second child and looking for recommendations on hypnobirthing classes. I gave birth to my daughter during COVID times and did an online birth class that I though was just ok, my husband didn’t feel like he got much out of it.

For a variety of reasons I’m hoping to approach this birth experience a bit differently starting with how we prepare. And I’m really hoping to find something more hands on that helps me prepare to manage fear and anxiety, expectations based on how things went the last time and pain. Also hoping whatever we do will help him feel more prepared as a birth partner.

Several people have suggested hypnobirthing, so looking for recommendations. Any leads are appreciated!

Thanks!

I know there are lots of great options for classes out there. I can personally recommend Loving Arms Childbirth Center--my husband and I took their class when I was pregnant with our first and it was the best thing we could possibly have done to prepare. I know they have a shorter class for 2nd time parents that I'm sure is also excellent. If you are looking for hypnobirthing specifically and do well with self-paced online classes, I absolutely loved Hypno-Babies. I did the whole course when I was pregnant and it had an enormously positive impact on my birth experience, not only helping me feel less scared and anxious beforehand but using the hypnosis tracks during labor is a big part of what allowed me to have a labor that progressed fairly quickly and easily. It's quite affordable too and I think they have a separate course that is just for partners (we didn't do this so I can't attest to it but I expect it is also very high quality). Good luck!

Hello, congratulations on your 2nd baby!

I highly recommend Rachel Yellin virtual hypnobirthing options, she has digital downloads. I paired this with my birth doula for preparation going into labor and birth.

Brijett (Mama Bear Birth Services) is an amazing doula and she uses some hyponbirthing techniques and has great birth partner preparation, she even specifies time in an appointment to help prepare your partner.

We did a hypnobirthing group class with Kathy Woo and it was great! The first class was virtual and the second class was at her space in Emeryville. The in person class was hands on  with partners so we practiced a lot of physical and verbal exercises that we did end up using a lot during labor. She also has audio tracks available which I found helpful to listen to in the weeks before I gave birth. She’s a warm person and really knowledgeable about childbirth. Highly recommend for hypnobirthing and also acupuncture if you’re interested in that as well! Best of luck!
