General Contractor for Chemically Sensitive Individual

Hello BPN Community,

I am looking for a general and floor contractor with experience using non-toxic, low/no VOC products. My mother, who is extremely ill and, as a result, chemically sensitive, is moving into a room in our house. We have discovered some moisture coming through the concrete slab, which is dampening the carpet. As a result, the floor needs to be replaced. Some caulking of the floor, as well as sealing, will be required. I have found contractors, but they don't have experience with non-toxic products or have found they don't work, so I don't want to use them. All the advice on BPN recommends Ecohome Improvement, which has now closed. Is there anyone who has experience doing any remodeling while working with someone who is chemically sensitive or being chemically sensitive who can advise me? I feel I have turned over every stone but am coming up short, and I am starting to feel there are no options out there! Any help is greatly appreciated. Thanks!

I think you are going to have to do the research yourself and be explicit and direct with any contractor you hire.
Water coming up through the concrete slab is going to be difficult and expensive to repair.

Yes! Contact Bill Weber at Reconstruction Services. He specializes in construction for those affected by water damage/mold/etc. He is at Avelar Reconstruction Services in Concord: (510) 921-7336. bweber [at] ravelar.com. We have a water leak that his team is addressing as we speak. They are incredible and very thorough!
