Eye doctor recommendation
Hi,
Our eyedoctor closed their offices, and I'm looking for a new doctor. I have a really high prescription, but no other major complications at this point.
Does anyone have any recommendations? We live in N. Berkeley, so something in Berkeley, Albany, El Cerrito, North Oakland would be preferred.
Thanks!

We go to Harlan Wong on Shattuck and have had a good experience! My husband has a pretty high prescription and hasn't had any issues there.
I also have a really high prescription; we've been with Solano Eyecare in Albany for several years and are happy with them. Appts are pretty easy to come by, and specifically Dr. Andy is great (very patient w/ my kiddo who's undergoing myopia treatment).
I also have a really high prescription. I go to the UC Berkeley optometry clinic at Minor Hall and have been for almost 2 decades now. Philosophically, I like the idea of helping medical students in their training and my eyes are the part of my body where I’m willing to do that. Every time I go, I feel like I get a very thorough exam and excellent care. The only downside I would say is that they can run a little long because the student does the exam and then brings in the attending optometrist at the end. You don’t get the same ongoing relationship building that you might in a smaller but it has all the benefits of lots of appointment options and a strong administrative infrastructure to respond to questions quickly.
Solano Eyecare on Solano is decent! Can't say it's amazing, but very efficient, communicative and polite. They do try to upsell you on different services, but I've experienced that at most eye doctors.
I love Dr. Nicole Sim at Walnut Square Optometry (Walnut and Vine). She is super friendly, easy to work with, and their office isn't pushy to buy new frames. The location is super convenient too!
I really like Dr Dagron at U And Eye Optometry in Montclair Village. It's a locally-owned, husband and wife business and they are both awesome, professional, patient. I hadn't had a comprehensive eye exam in years, and have noticed my vision starting to decline, so I stopped by there recently just to check out how much it would cost, etc. The price was very reasonable and the exam was thorough, and I enjoyed my time there, felt comfortable, etc. Definitely one to check out.
Fellow high prescription here! I highly recommend Dr. Samii at 2110 Vine St suite b, Berkeley, CA at Your Two Eyes. She was at the Cal Optometry school for a while as well, and she has a great understanding of high Rx patients as they age!
If you happen to have Kaiser medical insurance you might want to try out their eye doctor services. I've been pretty satisfied with them for almost 30 years. It took me a few visits to find an optometrist that I liked but after suffering through some duds, I found a really great person. Unfortunately he's retiring so I'll need to find another KP provider.
