Establishing residency for BUSD - we live with my parents
Hello all,
I’m hoping to enroll my son in tk for the 2023-2024 school year. I just started looking through the required proof of residency documents and realized we don’t have the documents from group A. We live with my parents rent free and i never signed a lease. Do I need to write up a lease? We have all the other documents although all utilities are in their name. They’d probably be happy to add my name though. Just wondering if anyone else has been in this situation.

Hi! I have also had a child in BUSD while living with family. They asked me to submit the required documents under my family member's name and have my family member write an affidavit stating that I do in fact live with them. You can contact the district to find out exactly what they will need.

I also had a related situation and I asked BUSD about it. They said I just needed a letter explaining my situation You may need to get it notarized or have an affadavit or somethng. I would just email the main BUSD address and ask them what they would accept in lieu of the lease and utilities.

We were in a similar situation when we moved in w/ grandparents for a year. Have your parents add you onto a utility - Water (EBMUD) seemed the easiest at the time. I forget all the options from each category, but we didn't have to write up a lease. I think EBMUD plus... Verizon maybe? was enough.
I remember going through this and explained it to the district. I believe I had a sign a paper claiming I lived in Alameda but wasn’t on the lease. It may have had to be notarized.
