Dentist for 2yr old: UCSF vs Lifelong Dental

My almost-2 year old daughter is covered by Medi-Cal (Denti-Cal). I am looking to schedule her first dentist visit and really want it to be a positive experience for her. I don't anticipate any major issues. This should be a routine visit.

Do you have any recommendations for great pediatric dentists who take Medi-Cal/Denti-Cal? I am considering the UCSF Dental Clinic or Lifelong Dental. Would love to hear thoughts on either one. Lifelong is much closer to us so would prefer to go there if others have had good experiences recently.

I can answer both: I had really terrible dental care at Lifelong Dental. It was overall pretty awful.

I love my dentist Dr. Mola at Select Dental in San Leandro - he not only accepts a wide range of dental coverages, he provides excellent care no matter who covers you, whether it's Denti-Cal or fancier insurance, and I find that to be rare. I had Denti-Cal/Medi-Cal for many years and now have fancy insurance. Dr Mola is exceptionally good, better than any other dentist I have seen.

Hi,

We had the most dreadful experience at UCSF Dental. The Dentist was so out of touch with kids, he was RUDE to my child, Yelled at my child.

He just walked in the room this way!

I wrote a letter of complaint to the Chair of the Dept., it wa so terrible an experience.

We next made an appt. with Children's Pediatric on Fillmore Street, SF.... and it was an all around wonderful experience!

Best.

I've heard good things about UCSF but haven't been there. I personally recommend UCSF Benioff Childrens Hospital in Oakland. Their dental department is wonderful, and they accept Medi-Cal.
