I had a small kitchen island designed and built 2 years ago by Berkeley Mills https://berkeleymills.com/. They do gorgeous work - you can visit their showroom in Berkeley. But they are expensive! They use high-end materials and employ skilled craftsmen&women. Their designer spent several hours with me in person and online, tweaking the design to fit into my small-ish craftsman-style kitchen. The island is only big enough to accommodate 2 bar stools but it gives me 5 feet of needed extra counter space. Plus, it is a work of art! I love it so much.
