Bra Recommendations?

Hi,

I need some new bras. I have large breasts (36DD) that are starting to sag. I've always worn underwires but I think that the wires are irritating the skin under my breasts. Do you have any recommendations for comfortable, non-underwire bras that will still lift my breasts up and make them look nice? I've been wearing sports bras but I really don't like how I look in them.

Thanks

I have had good luck with Wacoal's Awareness Full Figure Seamless Wire Free Bra in a similar size. Wacoal has other non underwire bras that will still be supportive. Check out their website.

Hi, don't know whether you have tried Wacoal bras.  They have underwires but also soft material between that and your skin and same on the straps.  Macy's has them as well as the lingerie shop on Walnut St, near Peet's.   Maybe go talk w/ them.   Wacoal also has sports bras with underwires and I like those a lot.   You can often get them on sale at Macy's online. good luck!

I strongly recommend going to Revelation in Fit in Oakland for a fitting. I wear a similar size in bras, and I went to them both for general bra fitting and for nursing bra fitting. They have dozens of brands and styles and are great with their suggestions. They absolutely do not pressure you into buying the bras at your store, though for these larger size bras I've found no difference between their prices and Amazon prices. The bras I've bought on their recommendation have been amazing (and I'm picky!).

I used https://www.abrathatfits.org/calculator.php
It not only assigned me a size I found hard to believe, it suggested bras that would work for my new measurement and shape.  I ordered "free return shipping" option off Amazon and was delighted to find my new bras in a new size to fit wonderfully.

I love Bravissimo. It's a UK company, but they offer free returns and have a ton of options for larger boobs.

I wear a 34H and I buy bras at Nordstrom and also through the company called bravissimo. It’s a UK-based company and they have a very wide selection of bras in all different sizes. Double D is the smallest size that they carry.

Have you tried any of the Enell bras? I;m a 36 DD have been wearing the new-ish Enell Lite almost daily for several months and really love it.

I agree, the shape that comes from the standard sports bras is not good. The Enell lite shows a beautiful shape and line.

I've been using the Enell high impact for horse riding and high-impact activities for about 15 years, ever since I saw Oprah review them on her show.

Take your time to get the right size and fit and INSTRUCTIONS for getting into it.

I don’t have a specific brand recommendation, but I highly recommend a free fitting at Revelation in Fit https://www.revelationinfit.com/

They have locations in Oakland, Los Altos, and SF.

I had never gotten a bra fitting before I went there as I had heard fittings in general are unpredictable. Someone recommended this place to me when I mentioned needing new bras after I stopped nursing. They are AMAZING!! You can do a walk-in on weekdays or schedule a fitting.

Before going in I thought I was a DD. As it turns out I am an FF or a G! I learned so much about how to comfortably fit and wear bras, and left with two bras that I wear all the time! FYI: you don’t need to buy anything after the fitting if you don’t want to.

I am so glad I went there and recommend it to everyone with a larger bust (or really anyone who thinks they are wearing the wrong size bra).

Good Luck!!

I would recommend a visit to Revelation in Oakland. It’s a small bra shop on Piedmont that somehow seems to have every size in stock, including nursing/maternity/sports/cutesy/work-a-day bras. You can just show up but it’s better to call ahead and make an appointment. It’s not cheap but neither is it as expensive as other places I’ve been to and the staff knows a ton about both breasts and bras. Having a pretty, well-fitting bra makes such a difference so I’m kind of evangelical about that store. When I was pregnant it was the only place I could find non-underwire bras in my size.

Try Uniqlo, those are very comfortable! You can try them on in store.

Not your perfect bra answer, but if you haven’t heard this before it could be fun or even liberating:

I don’t know if this is doable with your larger cup size, but if I have the chance to not worry about looks, and still get some support, i look for bralettes, and breast  bands. And again I am not sure about size, but I like the kindred bravely nursing bras, even for non-nursing wear. They are a comfortable, a bit supportive/lifting, and provide separation too.

Not sure if you sew, or know someone who does, but I’ve started sewing my own bras (some good printed patterns are at Stone Mountain) and have made myself a few that actually fit BETTER than anything I’ve ever bought in a store... it’s less expensive, you can buy the materials according to your preference, so the real “cost” is coming from the time you spend making/fitting. there are also classes on Craftsy if you’re feeling overwhelmed.

Check out Revelation in Fit on Piedmont Ave. They will hook you up. I never go anywhere else anymore - I’m a 32 H!

I'd recommend paying a visit to A Revelation in Fit, on Piedmont near oakland kaiser. They are expert bra fitters and have a huge inventory. They really helped me out a few years ago.

I'm a Wacoal believer, but I recently read about a new online bra company on Jezebel that is run by women. One of the founders was an Amazon executive and her goal was to design a bra that she would want to wear. It's called ThirdLove. They have an ingenious questionnaire that helps you get the right size and then they recommend particular styles based on your shape and size. It's free shipping and it comes fast.  Look on their website https://www.thirdlove.com/ - there are all kinds of bodies modeling the merchandise, not the usual buxom beach bunnies. The prices are similar to Wacoal - not cheap. Very comfortable and pretty too. I ordered a bra from them about a month ago and it has become my go-to bra so I just ordered another one.

I'm similar sized and have loved all my bras from Lane Bryant's Cacique line including some without wire.

Revelation in Fit in Oakland. They are amazing at fitting and advice. Absolutely worth a trip there.

Hi, try Wacoal though they may not be wire free but they are the only non wired bras that helped me. As did a tone of yoga - brief spurts to strengthen upper back and chest :) Also try to Third Love. U can chat with a rep before ordering and it’s free returns too.

I have large breasts 38DD or DDD and I found a wonderful selection at Lane Bryant!!  Pretty, functional bras. All styles.
