Potty Training Consultant?

Hi Everyone,

I'm thinking about getting a potty training consultant for my two-year-old. He's doing fine with peeing in the potty, but is really struggling with poop. Has anyone ever used one? If so, do you have a recommendation?

Thanks!

Hi there,

We used a potty training consultant last year when my daughter had trouble with the pooping part of potty training. She had shown so much readiness and picked up peeing right away but the pooping got worse and worse.  It turned out chronic constipation was the main issue and working with her doctor it took a really long time to fix this which we needed to do before addressing the potty training. Once we discovered it with her pediatrician by then pooping had become very unpleasant difficult thing.  The consultant really helped us zero in on how we could be more effective and take the pressure off although we had to met with her several times I think it also reassured us to know we were making the right moves. She met with us over zoom and I was worried we might need someone in person but it was fine.  I really advise anyone having poop difficulty to make sure constipation isn’t an issue.  It wasn’t immediately apparent.  Our consultant was trained in the oh crap method which is also the book we used.  Jenny Phelps ohcrappottytrainingwithjenny.com

After a long period of daily stool softener we finally took a one month break and used pull ups and then when she was ready we went back to undies and she immediately had success and we’ve never back tracked.  When it has been hard sometimes the kiddo just needs to take the pressure off.  It was a journey but I really grew in trusting my child and my own instincts.
