  • My son will be recuperating at home after a serious hospitalization and we're looking for a personal trainer who has good people skills who could come to the house for a few weeks to help with fitness/weight goals etc.  A male would be preferred but open to any good recommendations.  We live in Oakland. Thank you very much in advance for any leads.

My parents have had a great experience working with Vincent Castoro, who goes to their condo complex and works with them in their gym in Point Richmond. He's extremely kind and has been really helpful to them. Recommend giving him a call: https://www.focused-physical-therapy.com/.

  • Fitness Trainer for Teen

    Jan 20, 2024

My 13.5 year old teen is eager to start a strength training routine to supplement his martial arts training (he is a karate black belt). I am looking for a fitness trainer in El Cerrito/Albany/Berkeley area who could work with him to design a program, teach him good form, etc. I am finding that many of the gyms in the area seem to require teens to be 16 for group classes. Any recommendations?

I highly recommend PhaseFit on San Pablo Ave. They have a strength and performance class specifically for kids called No Days Off and do a lot of youth (as well as adult) strength training and coaching. www.phase.fit

Fuse Fitness in Kensington Circle is AMAZING. I’ve been going to them (Pascha and Kristen) for a decade and I love their classes. They also offer one-on-one training. And it’s women- and Black-owned.

  • Looking for recommendations for a personal trainer to work with my teen to create a work out routine.  My son is not sporty nor athletic, but has expressed interest in getting more fit.

Not looking for someone too intense but someone who can really meet my son with where he is at and work with him to set goals.

We use Jennifer at https://oltfit.com. If she comes to your area, she’d be perfect as we had the same parameters. We love her. She comes 3x a week to our home in Hayward to work with our teens.

Not sure where you are located but we LOVE Ken Miller in Alameda Kenneth Miller - Owner - The Training Station | LinkedIn who does great work with our teen!

  • Hi. I'm looking for a personal trainer for my 13 year old son. He's looking to get stronger for sports. I hope to find someone with knowledge about growing bodies and how to safely strength train. Oakland area preferred. Thank you!!

If you don't mind coming into Alameda (just over the Park Street bridge) our teen son works with Ken Miller and he has been FANTASTIC. Our son went in wanting to build muscles for his sport, but Ken started him out by working on his core to build strength before any bulk, which is absolutely the right way to go for a growing body. Ken is literally one of the nicest people I've ever met, he is great with my son, and super easy to work with. Home | thetrainingstation

  • Hi, I’m looking for a personal trainer to work in person in my backyard (with masks on) with my teenage son for several sessions. He is showing an interest in working out with weights and I want to make sure he is using the weights correctly and with proper form. Also to develop a good overall workout program with the weights we have. Maybe someone not as established in this field would be willing to meet in person? Any recommendations?
    Thanks in advance!

Although I am not certified as a trainer, I am knowledgeable and have been exercising for many years. Here is what I recommend to your son (or anyone who is interested) a few weeks before he starts with weights: On three non-consecutive days per week, run/jog 20-30 minutes, followed by Arnold Schwarzenegger's No Gym Workout, https://www.menshealth.com/fitness/a31818878/arnold-schwarzenegger-home…. The article has a link to photos of how to properly do each exercise. This will condition his muscles in advance of weights and help prevent injuries. If you don't find a trainer, I recommend learning new exercises and routines from books rather than websites and videos, as websites and videos are often full of annoying ads and may have unverified/unsafe information.

  • Hello BPN community,

I have a 16 y.o. kid playing tennis competitively on a pretty high level.

At this point we need to add a fitness training and looking for an experience trainer who can help to build strength, agility, speed and have experience working with young athletes.

    We live in Berkeley.

    Thanks.

I can recommend a great fitness coach for your tennis player. Natalia worked for years alongside my daughter's tennis coach. My girl fell in love with volleyball and is playing on the power team of a club now, but the fitness training she got from Natalia easily translates to her new sport. All the coaches always comment on her great agility, strength and stamina. Natalia holds a Masters degree in Sport Performance and is currently working at the Redondo Havlicek tennis academy. She is also a mother of two serious players. Give her a call at (510) 912-5135.
