  • Does anyone have experience taking their child to the doctors at One Medical on University Ave? I see that they accept babies now and thinking about enrolling my daughter since I’ve always had a great experience as a patient in SF. Thank you!

Yes, we have seen Dr. Peter a number of times and have regularly done the urgent video call appointments- they pick up within like 5-10minutes of pressing that option! It has been a great option for us to have with all the illnesses kids get. They are so much easier to get an appointment with last minute than our Pediatrician at Sutter Health. Even before the Berkeley Office took kids I could always get a next day appointment when my kiddo is sick if I drove to San Ramon, Marin, etc. We don't use One Medical, however, for our ongoing wellness checks or for appointments for known ongoing issues that we can schedule far in advance. We have stuck with Sutter Health for those kinds of appointments since we can schedule them super far in advance and because we like our Pediatrician there, we just can't ever get in to see her. It's nice having both, though One Medical does always remind us "they are not an urgent care" and would prefer us to have them as their main Pediatrician so all records can be housed there, but this works for us.

We've taken both our kids to One Medical since they were born (6y and 2y) and have always been happy. There is, what I consider, a pretty high turnover rate. We're on our 4th PCP for my 6yo since he was born. I've never felt rushed or brushed off, it is easy enough to get appointments, and the app is easy to use. I would probably switch if I wasn't so lazy (finding another PCP, transferring records, etc) mostly be the fees for two kids each year is a little outrageous. (Wish they had family plans...) Also, if you are a member you can manage your kids account from your log in, but if you aren't you'll have a log in for each kid (if you have more than 1) and you'll have to log in and out of the app to access each account.

  • Has anyone used One Medical group in Oakland or Berkeley? Especially for infant/child health? We have a baby on the way and are looking for a family practice clinic where both mom and baby can be seen.

    Hi there,

I wanted to share our recent experience with One Medical Group in Berkeley, in case you're considering them for primary care, infant or child health. I have two children of my own so I know how important it is to find a doctor you can trust.

This past week, my husband had stomach upset for a couple of weeks, and finally decided to go the doctor after peeing blood for a couple of days. He went to One Medical because we have new insurance, we didn't have a primary care physician yet, and their office is near our house. The doctor asked him some questions, got a blood and urine sample, and sent him on his way. They said they'd be in touch in 7-10 days. My husband asked them if there was anything more they could do to help him, given his acute condition, and they said no, that they would be in touch with the test results to discuss next steps. After 2 more days went by, and no response from One Medical despite a few phone calls, he finally went to Urgent Care. Within 30 min. they gave him an IV and told him he had an infection, and then sent him to the ER for more tests. They diagnosed him with a severe case of kidney stones. Thank god he is getting the care he needs now. He has since called One Medical and is getting a full refund.

Please keep this in mind when deciding which medical practice is the best fit for your family.

I've been under Jess Pinder's care at One Medical since 2017, and I must say, he's truly exceptional. Based out of the Emeryville clinic, Jess possesses an incredibly open-minded approach, attentively addressing all my concerns with unwavering support. When I hit  40 and felt like my body was suddenly failing me, Jess didn't hesitate to order a battery of tests to delve into any potential underlying issues. What sets him apart is his understanding of often overlooked conditions and his refusal to dismiss even the slightest symptom, ensuring I never feel invalidated or brushed aside which I appreciate so much as a woman nearing menopause.  In short, he's an absolute gem of a healthcare provider.

I’ve been using One Medical for many years, and now my baby and 5YO use them as well. While the service isn’t as amazing as it was pre-pandemic, I can still do video visits anytime with about a 15 minute wait and can always get same day appointments. I’ve been with the same doctor for years. It really gives me peace of mind, especially with young children. They do not have specialists though, just primary care.

You should try One Medical. I don't put too much stock into reviews. They have family practice offices (for adults and kids) as well as general women's health (not OB though specifically). There is also 24/7 access to on-call providers via video and phone. Their access isn't as great as it used to be but you can often get an appointment within a day or two.

I love my PCP and I think she is as you describe. I am also 50 and have a few minor medical issues. I don't know if she's in the UC Care network, nor do I know if she is accepting new patients. Dr. Emily Caro-Bruce at One Medical in Berkeley. https://www.onemedical.com/providers/emily-caro-bruce/

Our whole family has used One Medical for years, and my three-year-old has had pediatricians there his whole life. They do a great job with virtual care and I’ve been really happy with the pediatricians as well.

I've been really happy with One Medical.  I've seen various doctors there.  It's really efficiently run and they take their time with each patient.  They have offices in Berkeley and Oakland - you can pick a primary care doc at the most convenient one and then if needed make appointments elsewhere too like if you need same day.  They're very responsive by phone and email too.  Good luck!

This is why we like being a part of One Medical. My husband works in SF, I work in Marin, and we live in the East Bay. My primary doctor is in Marin by my office but if I'm sick at home and need to see someone, I can go to their Berkeley or Oakland location. My husband can do the same. It's really great!

+1 for the Oakland One Medical office!  We've seen Emily Caro-Bruce, Sarit Silver, and Kate Murray at that location, and all have been sweet and knowledgable.  Very reassuring for us as first-time parents!
