Need an OB in San Francisco

My youngest daughter is newly expecting and looking for a good OB in San Francisco who practices at UCSF or Cal Pacific Med Center.

Any strong recommendations for an OB (or group) and which of the 2 medical centers. She is not looking for an alternative practice.

My OB was Dr. Fung Yee Chan at Pacific Women's Obstetrics/Gynecology (https://www.pacificwomens.com/), part of Sutter Health and CPMC. There are several physicans in the all-female practice and I had a great delivery with Dr. Chan. The CPMC Van Ness hospital is fairly new (about 5 years old), state the art, with the best neonatal nurses. Best of luck to your daughter!

I had a really great experience with Dr. Wiggins at Golden Gate OBGYN!

I love my OB, Dr Jane Fang at Golden Gate OB/GYN https://goldengateobgyn.org/ You can opt to deliver at UCSF Mission Bay, but the drs don't deliver there, you'd be with the teachers/students. The practice delivers at CPMC Van Ness which was great when I was there in 2021.

I would highly recommend Dr. Wiggins or any of the OB's at Golden Gate OBGYN. They're the BEST! https://goldengateobgyn.org/

I can't speak to CPMC, but I'm going through my first pregnancy now with UCSF OBGYN. With UCSF you don't get one specific OB assigned to follow you through the pregnancy, instead they do something called a "group practice." You are scheduled with a provider in the group who is available when you need to be seen for the follow up appointments. They try their best to schedule you with the same provider, but that didn't really happen with me. I've been going to their Mission Bay clinic, and have been seen by their OBs, NPs, and midwives. Out of all the appointments, I've seen a provider twice. It's overall been fine since I'm not a person who needs too much handholding and I've always gotten my questions answered. Overall I have had no major issues or concerns with my experience there. My only comment is that the continuity of care is lacking and there's time I have to repeat my medical history. It also takes about 5-10 minutes at the beginning of each appointment for me to adjust to the bedside manner of who I am being seen by, but given the group practice model it makes sense.

Feel free to message me directly if you or your daughter has any questions about my experience with UCSF, happy to provide more details.

I highly recommend Pacific Women's OBG and Dr. Fung Yee Chan. She delivered both my children and is wonderful - great factual information with a personable, calm, supportive approach. I had an excellent experience at PWOG and delivered at CPMC - both old and new buildings. The ability to mostly meet with the same OBGYN throughout pregnancy was really great. Occasionally she got pulled into emergency surgeries, and I would see another OBGYN, but they were also fantastic. I think that only happened 2-3 times throughout both my pregnancies.

Another enthusiastic YES for Golden Gate Ob/Gyn in SF. I can't speak to all the providers there, but I had my 1st baby with Dr. Karen Callen and previously saw Dr. Jane Fang for GYN care. If I was still in SF I'd be with them for life!

I had my pregnancies with GG OB/GYN and all the docs there are great (mine is no longer there, but had great experiences with Wiggins, Callen and Fang during some pregnancy emergencies.  However, they moved to a very inconvenient location for me, so I am now with Pacific Gynecology and Obstetrics at CPMC and am very happy with Dr. Bonnie Massa.

I have had 2 babies at UCSF Mission Bay. I had good experiences both times. I was followed by high risk OBs.
