Our experience with Milgard includes a patio door and 5 sliding windows. We would NOT recommend them. The mechanics are not durable - door gets stuck/doesn't lock well/is temperature sensitive; window sliding pads get stuck/derailed easily; outer frames have had discolorations rather quickly; etc. Complaints to Milgard had to be repeated over weeks until they sent out service people, who then did the bare minimum to gloss things over; their "repairs" lasted only short periods of time until the issues recurred.

I had three Milgard exterior glass doors installed on our older house about ten years ago, and I love them. They are very high quality. My contractor (and brother) recommended them, and he uses them in his work when his clients want higher quality. Maybe consider if you plan to stay in your house for a long time. If so, I think Milgard is worth the extra cost.

We installed all new Milgard fiberglass windows 18 months ago are are very happy with them. After doing research, the fiberglass was a quality, long lasting, low maintenance option. Very good for energy savings - our upstairs used to get crazy hot on hot days and the new windows make a substantial difference in insulating the house.

We have the Milgard Fiberglass and really like them. They are a bit more expensive than Vinyl but much less toxic and will last longer. We got them installed by Charles Window and I think they did a fine job. They are double paned and are way better than our old aluminum ones!!!

When we built our house 32 years ago, we put in Milgard windows.  Now I wish we had gone with a better (more expensive) manufacturer.

We got are aluminum frame windows. If Milgard makes wooden-frame windows, that may be a different story.

It did not take more than a couple years before our Milgard frames started to corrode and stick. To this day, there are some that I have not been able to muscle open.

They also leak. That has been evident all along.  During the recent rains, I noticed one window that had accumulated a pocket of water inside, between the two glass sheets.

The runner-up when we were in the midst of construction was Anderson, the high-end manufacturer.  About ten years ago I responded to one of their ads, and a salesman refused to come to our house to discuss his company's products unless my husband was also present. Really?  I was so offended that I have not tried to do business with them ever again, and we are living with the bad-choice Milgard windows.

Having worked in residential construction, I can vouch for both. Both brands are good… Marvin is like top of the line…. Milgard is good, it’s just not top of the line… but i say if Milgard is more your price point, you can’t go wrong. If you have the extra money to splurge on Marvin…go for it! it may only hurt your wallet, but you won’t regret it.

My wife and I own several rental properties in the East Bay. When we needed to replace some of the rotted double hung windows we first used Milgard products. Within several years the seals began to fail and moisture began to appear. The company basically said "too bad" and was not willing to replace them. We switched to Marvin windows for the next project (10 years ago) and have had no problems since. If you are interested in an even better quality(and a bit more expensive) product you might look at the Pella line of windows. We installed them in our residence and they are very, very good.
