Details of TK at Arts Magnet?
Hullo! Our son just got assigned to Arts Magnet and we cannot really find any information about it. He's in a lovely montessori right now and we're figuring out logistics and also what would be best for him. Specific questions:
- Does anybody have experience with Arts Magnet TK and can speak to it?
- What time does TK start and end?
- What does the TK day look like? more indoor classroom vs free play vs outdoors?

My son is in TK at Berkeley Arts Magnet. He likes his teacher, Ms. Eisenberg, a lot! So do I. The class also has teaching assistants, so the ratio is maybe 8:1, in the room. We get weekly class updates and have many opportunities to be a room parent, volunteer for in-class or in-school events.
The class is a mix of play and learning, along with rest and relax time. A big focus is social and emotional development, in addition to the expected TK-level math, science, reading, writing, and observational learning. They have outdoor recesses. The 1st-5th grade playground is better than the TK/K playground, though. Weekly, they have art, Capoeira, Healthy Me Kids Music & Movement, and library time. Monthly, they have gardening. This month, they are building a worm bin.
School is from 9:10am-2:25pm for TK. I think Washington starts an hour earlier, so different schools may have different bell schedules.
BAM also offers after-school enrichment classes (costs money) such as cooking, hip-hop, tennis, Mandarin, and 3D building. They last one hour, 2:30pm-3:30pm. There are also onsite after-school programs that go from 2:25pm-6pm.
