Mandarin Chinese Tutor (Native Speaker)

Hello! My name is Johnny Chen, and I am from Taiwan. I am currently a visiting student at UC Berkeley, where I am studying English literature and Latin. I am also completing my bachelor's degree in English and Chinese literature at National Taiwan University, ranked #68 globally by QS World University Rankings.

Having been born and raised in Taiwan, I have developed a deep appreciation for the Chinese language and its rich literary traditions. My passion for teaching began as a teaching assistant with the International Chinese Language Program at NTU, where I guided students from around the world in improving their Chinese speaking skills and pronunciation. Additionally, I have four years of experience teaching English as a second language to learners of all ages, from preschoolers to college students.

As a speaker of 5+ languages, I firmly believe that learning a language should not be of pressure but of pleasure. Language learning is about more than just mastering grammar and vocabulary—it’s about embracing the culture and finding joy in the process. I strive to create a supportive, engaging, and goal-oriented learning environment where students can thrive and truly connect with the language.
