Hello families,

I am an experienced music educator and active performer in the bay area music scene.  Over the last twenty years of teaching I have taught all ages from 5-65!  I have taught students that are just beginning to explore music all the way on up to experienced musicians that are looking to expand into new concepts.  I have even had the pleasure of teaching local rock star's kids and have given lessons to Billie Joe Armstrong's (Green Day) son who has gone on to have a successful career in his own right.  I create my own methodology and teaching materials for each student and direct my teaching focus with students needs and interests in mind.  I always aim to create an environment that supports both discipline and fun.  I have a strong background in jazz studies and attended Northern Illinois University as a graduate student.  It has been my pleasure to prepare many middle school and high school students to play in their school jazz band programs.   Some of the topics to be expected in lesson with me are the following: chord Knowledge, song repertoire, music theory, chord/scale theory, improvisation concepts, composition, note reading/sight reading and Fun!  I teach at Soul Graffiti Productions which is conveniently located at 6323 San Pablo Ave. in Oakland, for more info visit michaelwynar.org
