Experienced Language Arts classroom teacher and tutor offering engaging online individual tutoring or small group sessions this summer

Hello Parents,

I have been teaching and tutoring middle and high school English in Oakland for 13 years. I received my BA from Harvard in 2004 and my MA from Mills in 2009 and am offering online tutoring this summer. 

I can create standards-aligned lessons, customized to meet the interests and needs of your child. Tutoring, even online, offers a unique opportunity to build a strong relationship between teacher and student, and I have found the most success (and enjoyment for everyone involved) when we build curriculum together, based on students' interests and skill-level.  

I love teaching active reading strategies (fiction and nonfiction) and helping students organize and develop their thoughts for structured analytic writing. The last few years, I have been especially focused on meeting the literacy needs of secondary students who are reading below grade-level. Resume and references available upon request.
