Re: Summer Ideas for Tween
If your son is interested in music, perhaps he would be open to an amazing and different kind of music camp called ''Jam Camp West'' run by an Oakland non-profit called ''Living Jazz.'' Check it out here: http://www.jamcampwest.com/ and here: http://www.yelp.com/biz/jam-camp-west-la-honda

It has been a transformative experience for my daughter and her friends, many of whom she met at the camp and has maintained contact with for years. Plenty of the kids are interesting and quirky, and all they need is an interest (no training required) in music, singing or dance - the rest is magic! Jam Camp West fan

Re: Summer music sleep away camp
My son played tenor saxaphone during high school and over several summers attended Jazz CampWest in La Honda near Santa Cruz. It's a fabulous program that allows students to learn from and jam with well-known jazz artists who teach the classes. It was a great experience for all. The website is http://www.jazzcampwest.com/. ''Jazz CampWEST is a eight-day jazz camp for instrumentalists, vocalists, drummers and dancers held in the beautiful redwoods of La Honda in Northern California. The combination of workshops, personalized instruction, student performances, faculty concerts, late night jams, and beautiful surroundings with new friends and mentors creates an inspiring and memorable week.''
