Ah-Lan Dance Studio

My Daughter danced with Ah Lan for many, many years.  The teachers are professional with a loving touch.  the recitals are amazing! beautifully choreographed and the costumes are stunning.  that was the hook for my daughter when she saw the peacock costumes at a CNY celebration.   absolutely the best value for you dance dollar.  

My daughter started dance class here with Ah-Lan dance at age 5. Now more than 11 years later, she is still dancing with Ah-Lan dance, with ballet, Chinese Dance and Wugong. She also attends the fantastic summer dance camps and all the wonderful performances every year. It is a very friendly, encouraging and nurturing community. Especially during the pandemic years, the classes and friendship formed during the dance helped her to feel connected and supported. The studio also offers dance classes for adults, with options to perform. Our whole family now dances with the studio --what a great fun to be on the same stage with my daughter, and other Ah-Lan dancers, young and old! 

Ah-lan Dance is wonderful dance studio where kids & teenagers and adults learn dance, but also develop strong friendships. The studio is mainly oriented to Chinese Dance, but the techniques learned are varied: in addition to Chinese Dance, there are Ballet classes, Jazz classes, Wugong classes (Chinese-style gymnastics), and more. There are two main events in the year: a Chinese New Year performance at the Lunar New Year (January/February), and a gala in May/June.The studio is in El Cerrito, and most students come from Richmond, El Cerrito, Albany, Berkeley, and Oakland; some travel from further away. Friendships develop across Bay Area school-districts and cities & towns. Many students have Chinese heritage, but many also don't. This makes for an atmosphere that is warm, friendly, and encouraging of each dancer's efforts. All are welcome. In fact, many adult classes are attended by parents. The adult dancers are a strong and essential part of the studio, making it a family-oriented environment where all feel, and are, welcome.

My daughter has danced with An-Lan from the age of 5 and this summer at 16 she's assisted and taught at the summer camp. All the kids perform at the yearly dance Gala, and have a great time on stage. During the school year she does Chinese dance, wuogong, and ballet. During the summer camps the dancers also learn  jazz, hip-hop, modern, and how to choreograph dance. It's an inclusive and encouraging enviroment, and the kids develop good friendships. 

My daughter danced at Ah-Lan Dance Studio from age five until she graduated from high school. It is a wonderful dance studio and a nurturing community. Ah-Lan Dance Studio welcomes everyone who wants to dance, from the fun/exercise level to the more advanced level. At this studio, the students get the opportunity to learn about Chinese culture and dance, as well as how to share that knowledge through performances within the local community. My daughter also learned how to perform on stage as a dancer and to be a leader. She attended the Ah-Lan Dance Summer Camp for many years, where she learned many essential skills for leadership. She grew from being a shy, quiet child who was afraid of speaking in front of others to a confident leader and teacher at the summer camp. She also developed several close friendships that have stayed with her through the years. Ah-Lan Dance Studio is not just a dance studio; it is a supportive community where everyone is accepted to dance and learn as they are.

We love Ah-Lan Dance!  My daughter has danced here for 8 years and wants to take as many classes as she can.  The teachers are fantastic and have a good rapport with the students. Students are supportive of each other and it is nice to have a good community outside of school friends.
