Carpenter bees

I'm wondering if anyone else has noticed the sudden appearance of carpenter bees this year, and if you have had any success getting rid of them, either on your own or through professionals. I never heard of carpenter bees before this year!

I purchased some traps (which supposedly catch ONLY carpenter bees, not honeybees or bumble bees), but haven't tried them yet and am already wondering what my backup option will have to be. I do not want these bees to keep eating my house!

I’ve had success with sprinkling Borax on the exterior window sills which seem to be the point of entry.
Good Luck!

Hi

I see them every spring- they love (and dominate! ) this ancient wisteria tree when it blooms... which has happened over the last couple weeks.

And yes-   I'd say subjectively, many more this year than last!

They do fly around the rafter tails near roof  on 2nd floor & compete for a few existing nests . Have not seen any new holes though. They don't like redwood apparently.

Good luck!

Squirting WD-40 into the holes they make keeps them away, for a while.
