Cost of Delivery with Blue Shield PPO
We're planning to start trying for our second child. Our first was born at Kaiser, but we've since changed health insurance and have Blue Shield PPO with a 20% co-insurance.
Would anyone be willing to share what hospital costs have been like recently - and where you delivered? I'm curious about various types of deliveries. My first was an unplanned C-section so while I'm hoping for a VBAC, I'm mentally (and financially) preparing for another C-section. Thank you!

I gave birth at John Muir in 2021. Had an epidural and pitocin induction. We had to stay 24 hours after delivery to monitor baby's glucose (I had gd). Bill was 11-12k.
Recently gave birth for a second time at John Muir in Walnut Creek in January and just received my bill. I had a pitocin induction with an epidural (gave birth same day the induction was started) and stayed 2 nights. The bill was 64k. My previous delivery was also at John Muir in Walnut Creek in 2022, vaginal, epidural, 2 night stay and was 44k.
I delivered at John Muir in Walnut Creek back in 2023.
For reference, I had an uncomplicated vaginal birth and I did use epidural, but no other interventions, and I stayed 2 nights. The amounts below are what was billed to insurance.
The bill is definitely wild, but overall, I had a really good experience and was well taken care of, and thankfully my insurance (Cigna PPO) covered most of what they were billed.
