inter-district transfer from Emeryville into OUSD

Hello everyone,

Does anyone have a sense of how difficult it is to transfer into OUSD from Emeryville? My son currently goes to a private school in Berkeley but I am seeing the writing on the wall that it's not a great fit. I need a bigger district and I don't want to go back into the Berkeley public schools even though I work in Berkeley.

Is it hard to get into OUSD from Emeryville? My son would be in the second grade and I am looking for socioeconomic, racial, and linguistic diversity; test scores are not important to me at this stage.

Thank you

OUSD is generally willing to take transfers, but there isn't room at all school sites.  As an out-of-district applicant, you would have lower priority than in-district. General application window closes 2/9/25, so it would be best to have your application in before then. https://www.ousd.org/enroll/transfer

I'd encourage you to look at Emerson OUSD in Temescal. From our experience, it's an excellent school with committed teachers and staff, a welcoming community, and all the types of diversity you are looking for. While most grades are full or nearly full, there happens to be room in the class that will be second grade in 2025-2026.
