divorced parent mediator who understands narcissism and gaslighti
Looking for a mediator to resolve communication and decision conflicts for divorced parents. I am low income so cannot pay a high retainer and need an hourly rate. I need someone who is experienced with and understands how to work with a narcissistic parent, gaslighting and stonewalling. Those who deal with it know, if anyone has had any luck with a mediator or family therapist I would be so grateful for the referral. Thank you

I have no economical referrals. I am successfully divorced from a narcissistic, gaslighting and mentally ill man. We did court-ordered mediation around custody and it was very upsetting and difficult because my delusional ex would say things about me that weren’t true and we were both denying things the other said. Under pressure I would shut down (after years of psychological abuse) and he would ramp up and become more articulate. I didn’t come off well.
What is important is to document as many incidents and conversations as you can to have a paper trail. I ended up with three years of data that helped in court.
In my experience there is no way to come to resolution with people like this. They are always right, always the victim, and cannot emotionally tolerate another viewpoint.
We ended up with a Parent Coordinator so that I do not have to have any contact with my ex. It has been expensive but a HUGE relief.
It is sad how many people suffer from serious, often undiagnosed, mental illness and what is even sadder is the impact their behavior has on those of us in their wake.
I’m sorry I have such a pessimistic outlook to offer. I’m wishing you all the best and sending hope and prayers and strength for the upcoming months and years.
