Who we are:

Alameda Young Naturalist Club is an outdoor education program that offers kids aged 6 to 11 the opportunity to thrive in the natural world. We aim to foster connections with nature, as well as bonds between campers by providing a space for safe, exciting, and memorable outdoor adventures. Camp is packed full of activities like learning safe fire-building, wild foraging, big group games, and outdoor exploration! Ultimately, AYNC seeks to instill a deep love for the natural world in children so that they will feel responsible for protecting it as they grow and develop into their own personhood. 

And we need qualified outdoor educators to help us do that!

Qualifications:

You are -- 

• At least 18 years old (some college is preferred) 
• Passionate about nature
• Kind, empathetic, patient
• Able to walk and be on your feet for extended periods
• Responsible, dependable, adaptable
• (Ideally) Someone with experience in early childhood education, outdoor education, or camp counseling

Responsibilities:

You will -- 

• Step into a position of leadership when needed
• Confidently uphold AYNC safety and boundary rules
• Compassionately support conflict resolution efforts between campers
• Creatively foster friendships and connections between all members of the group
• Enthusiastically play and/or lead games with kids
  • Whilst navigating competitive spirits and taking into consideration personal interests of the group
• Demonstrate knowledge or enthusiasm for outdoor education subjects such as:
  • Animal handling
  • Foraging
  • Survival skills
  • Local wildlife
  • Conscientious gardening and farming technique

Additional Details

Compensation: $18 - $30/hr depending on role and experience with AYNC.

20-30 hours per week. Camp runs M-F, from 8:30a to 4:00p. 

Hiring for Summer camps (June/July) as well as Holiday Camps (Spring Break, Presidents' Week, more to come).
