Writing Coach for Classroom Assignments, College Applications, and Op-Eds
General Writing Tutoring (middle school through post-graduate), Creative Writing, Op-Eds
I am an award-winning essayist and have been featured in The Washington Post, Los Angeles Times, San Francisco Chronicle, and a variety of international magazines and newspapers. I’ve received numerous grants, and was honored with the Sundance Creative Writing Fellowship along with a grant from the Soros Fellowship. My memoir, The Man Who Outgrew his Prison Cell, Confessions of a Bank Robber, explores how a voice on the page can emancipate us in myriad ways from the places we get stuck.
As a young man, I robbed banks and eventually served time in prison. While incarcerated, I began a writing correspondence with the renowned essayist Richard Rodriguez, who became my mentor and advocate. My writing path took me to Hollywood where I wrote for several TV shows as well as script-consulted on films like “Ant Man” and “Baby Driver.”
Now, I guide writers – particularly those grappling with anxiety, anger, or self-doubt – to unlock their voices and stories through insightful essays, compelling narratives, and impactful Op-Eds. I specialize in helping individuals overcome writing anxiety and find clarity and confidence in their expression.
