  • Hello,

I'd love to hear from current/recent Star Academy families who live in the east bay.  How was the commute for you?  Did you carpool?  How is the school currently?  Did your kid thrive/sink there?  Overall strengths/weaknesses of the school?

    Thank you very much!

    Hi,

Our daughter has been at Star since 6th grade. She is in 10th. We are in Oakland. We love Star. She doesn't mind the commute. We got her a phone but even without one she would be fine. It is a social moment for her and she enjoys riding with friends. She has learned a lot academically and LOVES going to school. She feels like she has found her place with peers and has a real sense of belonging. The teachers are supportive and warm even when our kid makes mistakes. I can only say good things about Star.

Re: High School for learning disabled teen
Our ninth grade daughter is attending Star Academy in San Rafael. It's a wonderful school, but, obviously much less convenient to those of us here in the East Bay. We looked at Bay Hill and really liked it, but it wouldn't have met our daughter's needs. Star Academy has many services that she needed built into the program, such as OT, Lindamood-Bell and speech therapy. Your son may not need as many services, but that is all available at Star. We were lucky enough to connect with other families from the East Bay and we're in a carpool, which really helps out on transportation.
