Mark Abelson Psychotherapy: DBT Counseling for Teens and Adults
Hello, Berkeley and Bay Area Parents,
My name is Mark, and I’m a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist (#13357), with an in-person office and virtual location close to Piedmont Ave ad Grand Lake, Oakland.
If you or a loved one are struggling with overwhelming emotions, Dialectical Behavioral Therapy (DBT) may be able to help.
I work with clients who have difficulty managing strong emotions, and who may also be prone to having strong emotions. These can feel like as spikes of anger or shame, impulsive action that we regret and shoulder later, challenges with important relationships, and panic attacks.
Therapy can offer space and strategies to examine emotions and sort out the hard choices in our lives. DBT is a collaborative and skills-based form of counseling that directs safety, wisdom, acceptance, and building resilience for a life worth living.
I work with:
- Teens and adults who struggle with reactivity and overwhelm, and people who have struggled with self-harming behaviors
- Neurodivergent kids, teens, and adults
- Queer, gender-nonconforming, and transgender youth and adults
- People who’ve considered entering an Intensive Outpatient Program, or who have graduated from IOP’s, PHP’s, and hospitalization.
I would love to share more about what this therapy could offer you. I offer a free 20 minute consultation by phone or zoom to help clients determine what feels like a good fit.
My private office in Oakland has a free adjacent parking lot, and I have time to see clients during daytime and limited evening hours.
