Thoughts on Korematsu

Looking for some recent reviews of Korematsu.  Would like to know what you think of the Principal and teachers as well as the general feel of the school, like class sizes, community support etc.  I'd also like to know how they are in terms of teaching Academics as well as Social Emotional.  Any information would be great!

RE:
Thoughts on Korematsu (Oct 9, 2024)

My child who attended Korematsu the past two years had an overall positive experience. Yes there were some challenges, class sizes can be large, communication home could be better, and his PE class was pretty useless. But on the balance he had some teachers that he really liked, interacted with a wide diversity of students, and was very involved in school leadership and study body activities. I think at lot depends on how motivated your child is and how they take to the independence offered in middle school. The school administration is really focused on fostering this independence, so if your student expects parents or other adults to advocate for them or maintain relationships with their teachers on their behalf they may have a harder time. I also think students who find "their thing" whether it be band, or sports, or leadership, are less likely to go adrift.

I was pleasantly surprised by the experience actually, but my student also went into 7th grade after a disastrous post-pandemic 6th grade year where the kids were an absolute mess, so in a way I think the larger school and variety of class experiences was a fresh restart. And honestly it flies by so fast - after being at our elementary school for 7 years the 2 years at Korematsu felt incredibly brief.
