Inter-district Transfer Woes

We reside directly in front of Albany Middle School but our address is classified as being in El Cerrito. My child is scheduled to attend school in WCCUSD. However, it takes less than two minutes for him to walk to Albany Middle.

The interdistrict transfer was approved by WCC in early spring but we haven’t received anything from AUSD. What legal rights do we have since we reside directly in front of Albany Middle and do NOT want to attend school in WCCUSD?

RE:

You have no "rights" and btw much of AMS is in the City of El Cerrito. AUSD is a tiny district and does the best they can with incredibly limited resources to process a relatively huge wave of IDTs in a relatively short timeframe. Please be kind to their staff as they work through all the requests in the legally mandated order. You will hear back when they know for sure if they have a spot for your student, or not. They are just as aware as you are about the first day of school, and sometimes they don't know until a week or two into the school year. Feel free to investigate private school options if you can't stand the uncertainty.

FYI Korematsu is a fine school if AMS doesn't work out. I know many happy, successful students there.
