Pro bono lawyer for housing issue in San Pablo?

Hi BPN, do you know of a lawyer who could advise pro bono or for a reduced fee on a housing issue in San Pablo? In short, our nanny’s sister’s apartment burned down and it seems like it was the owner’s fault. The owner initially said they would support her in finding a new apartment but now they are backing out, saying they can simply return her security deposit and aren’t providing any compensation for all of her items lost in the fire. She is going to try calling Bay Area Legal Aid, but do you happen to know of other resources where she could get advice / support with this? Thank you!

I think BALA is absolutely the right call and don't waste time looking for anywhere else. They do this every day.

BALA does primarily serve subsidized tenancies, not sure if that applies to this situation. Centro Legal de La Raza also covers Contra Costa County so I would try calling them too.

Hopefully she had renter’s insurance (something her landlord should have encouraged or insisted she do); her insurance company would battle it out with the owner’s insurance company I believe. I believe someone mentioned Bay Area Legal Aid; here is more information https://baylegal.org/get-help/find-an-office/contra-costa-county/
Best of luck.

Thanks so much everyone!
